MUSIC VISUALISATION • PACIFIC 0101

In 2017, during my studies at the Academy for Fine Art and Design Ljubljana, I embarked on a unique and challenging project: to visualize a song of my choice through animation. I chose “Pacific 0101” by the iconic electronic music group 808 State. This project, titled PACIFIC 0101, became a significant milestone in my creative journey, blending my passion for music and visual art into a cohesive and dynamic animated music video.

Project Concept and Inspiration

“Pacific 0101” is a track known for its atmospheric and tranquil electronic sounds, which evoke a sense of calm and expansive beauty. Inspired by the serene yet rhythmic qualities of the song, I aimed to create visuals that would not only complement but also enhance the auditory experience. My vision was to craft an animation that transports viewers into a synchronized world of sound and imagery, where every beat and melody is mirrored by a visual counterpart.

Creative Process and Techniques

The creation of PACIFIC 0101 was an intricate process that involved several stages:

  1. Conceptualization: I started by listening to “Pacific 0101” repeatedly, allowing the music to inspire visual ideas. I sketched initial concepts and storyboards, focusing on themes of nature, fluidity, and geometric forms that reflect the song’s essence.
  2. Design and Animation: Using a combination of traditional animation techniques and digital tools, I developed the visuals. I employed software such as Adobe After Effects and Photoshop to create fluid transitions, dynamic shapes, and vibrant colors that move in harmony with the music.
  3. Synchronization: Ensuring that the visuals were perfectly synchronized with the beats and rhythms of the song was crucial. I meticulously timed each animation sequence to align with the music, creating a seamless audiovisual experience.
  4. Refinement: The final stage involved refining the animations, enhancing the color schemes, and adding subtle effects to ensure the video was polished and visually captivating.

Outcome and Impact

The resulting animated music video for PACIFIC 0101 is a testament to my ability to merge music and visual art. The video takes viewers on a journey through abstract landscapes, fluid motions, and rhythmic patterns, all designed to echo the tranquil yet dynamic nature of “Pacific 0101.” This project allowed me to explore new dimensions of creativity, pushing the boundaries of traditional animation and visual storytelling.
