KREATIVAL MOSTE: Local Creative Market, Fresh Sounds Stage and Thrift Lab

On the Day of Music, 21 June 2026, the first edition of Kreatival Moste took place at Tržnica Moste: a festival that brought together visual art, music, local creativity, and circular culture.

The first edition of the festival transformed Moste into an open cultural space for one day, connecting artists, musicians, creators, and the local community.

Kreatival Moste was created from the desire to establish a high-quality cultural space outside Ljubljana’s strict city centre — a place where culture is not only something people attend, but something built through encounters, collaboration, and community.

The festival was free and open to all visitors.

Culture, Creativity and Community in Moste

Ljubljana has a rich cultural scene, yet many of its larger cultural events still take place in the city centre. Kreatival Moste was created as an initiative to bring culture closer to local communities and create a space where creativity can grow directly from the environment in which people live.

For one day, Tržnica Moste became a place for gathering, exchanging ideas, and presenting local creative production.

Local Creative Market

The central part of the festival was the Local Creative Market, where 16 local artists, designers, and makers presented their artworks and handmade products.

Visitors had the opportunity to discover local creative production, meet the authors directly, and support an independent artistic scene that often remains in the shadow of larger institutions and commercial events.

Thrift Lab: A Space for Circular Culture

An important part of the programme was Thrift Lab, a vintage market dedicated to collecting, reusing, and reimagining the value of objects.

The market brought three collectors of vintage items and second-hand clothing to Moste. Their stands offered visitors an authentic outdoor thrift experience while highlighting the importance of circular culture, reuse, and sustainable ways of living.

At a time of increasingly fast consumption, projects like this serve as an important reminder that objects can have multiple lives, stories, and purposes.

Fresh Sounds Stage

A special energy was brought to the festival by the Fresh Sounds Stage, where twelve musicians presented their work.

The programme included three saxophonists, a keyboard player, a vocalist, a percussionist, and four young DJs, who created a relaxed and inclusive musical atmosphere throughout the day.

The programme was designed as an open platform for young and emerging musicians who rarely get the opportunity to perform on larger city stages.

Philosophical Workshop: Between the Analog and the Digital

The festival was not only dedicated to presenting art, but also to reflecting on contemporary creative practices.

As part of the programme, a philosophical workshop took place:

“Live Music, Dialogue and Interactions Between the Digital and the Analog”

The workshop was led by Dr. Gašper Pirc.

The discussion explored questions about the relationship between technology, sound, image, artistic processes, and the ways we experience culture today.

Kreatival Moste as a Contribution to the Development of Ljubljana’s Cultural Districts

On the Day of Music, 21 June 2026, something special happened at Tržnica Moste. The first edition of Kreatival Moste took place in this Ljubljana neighbourhood — a festival that brought together art, music, and circular culture, transforming Moste for one day into a vibrant centre of creativity, connection, and community.

The event was created in collaboration with Mladinska postaja Moste, with the desire to bring high-quality cultural experiences to city districts outside Ljubljana’s strict centre.

The festival was shaped and developed by visual artist Bernarda C. Nibera, who played an important role as the organiser and curator of the creative market and Thrift Lab, together with vocalist Maruša Conič, who co-created the music programme as the organiser of the Fresh Sounds Stage.

Together with other collaborators, they demonstrated how a strong local initiative can create an event that goes beyond the framework of a single-day festival.

Ljubljana is often presented as a city of culture, yet a large part of cultural activity is still concentrated in the city centre. This is where the biggest concerts, festivals, and exhibitions usually take place, while many neighbourhoods remain at the edge of the cultural map.

Such centralisation affects not only access to cultural content but also the feeling of belonging and connection that residents experience within their own city.

Just a few minutes away from the city centre, the lively urban atmosphere often fades, and many neighbourhoods become primarily residential areas. This is why events such as Kreatival Moste are important for the future development of the city.

Culture should not be limited to the centre — it should live where people live.

Kreatival Moste offered visitors exactly this experience. The event was not experienced as a traditional cultural attraction, but as a part of the community itself. Tržnica Moste became, for one day, a space for connection, creativity, and spontaneous encounters between neighbours, creators, and visitors.

The greatest value of Kreatival may not have been measured only by the number of performers, exhibitors, or visitors. Its importance lies primarily in its cultural meaning.

The festival demonstrated that neighbourhoods outside the city centre have the potential to become active cultural spaces. It showed that communities themselves can create meaningful cultural programmes and that people are looking for events designed not only for tourists, but for the local environment.

The first edition of Kreatival Moste therefore represented more than a successful festival day. It placed Moste on the map of Ljubljana’s cultural districts and opened a space for thinking about how we imagine the future development of the city.

If we want Ljubljana to be a city that serves its residents, we need more events that connect people, support local creators, and enrich cultural life within neighbourhoods.

Kreatival Moste proved that culture does not need the backdrop of the old city centre to be meaningful, attractive, and relevant. It needs people who believe in the power of community.

And in Moste, those people clearly exist.

If this year’s Kreatival was the beginning of a new tradition, then Moste has taken an important step from the image of a residential neighbourhood towards becoming a recognisable cultural district.

And that is its greatest value.
